Perfectly Ripe
Makeup artists are starting to sound more like nutritionists,
recommending a daily serving of fruit. The sweetest flavors: Plum and
berry shades, worn on eyes, cheeks, and lips. By Victoria Kirby
Red lipstick and glittery gold makeup are holiday mainstays -- so much so that they've become as predictable as the Hermes tie you give your father. But this year, a few new colors add an element of surprise: ripe shades of plum and berry, worn together on eyes, cheeks, and lips. "Berry colors dress up your face without making you look heavily made up," says makeup artist Fulvia Farolfi. "The trick is to build up the color on one feature, then wear it sheer everywhere else." And unlike that standard ruby mouth paired with little other makeup, Farolfi likes the harmony these colorful shades offer when applied on all features. "A cool berry worn on the eyes and balanced by a warmer one on the cheeks and lips is a beautiful, complete look," she says. Maybe this will even inspire you to branch out and get your dad something he really wants.
