On September 4, Judith Willis woke up at 11:30 p.m. She thought she heard someone in her Greenville, South Carolina, home. She woke up her husband, retired 70-year-old pastor William Willis. William investigated the noise and noticed that a bedroom door was closed that shouldn't have been, and so he retrieved a pistol and announced loudly that he had a gun and wanted the intruder to show himself, or he would shoot.
