Gary Renner's letter to the editor (TNA, October 1) seemingly welcoming National IDs and enumerating his view of their benefits leaves out some serious basic concerns about such IDs. Everyone has seen recent headlines exposing massive security violations of major commercial databases that compromised people's Social Security numbers and vital information. Why would anyone think that a government National ID database would be immune to such violation of security?
