The National Gallery in London has mounted one of its occasional small exhibitions that shed light on a very particular aspect of Western art. This time, light is precisely the subject of the show, which is called Art of Light: German Renaissance Stained Glass. On view until February 17, it focuses on stained glass produced in German-speaking areas in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and argues that the best stained glass from the Renaissance fully reflected, and sometimes rivaled, the latest developments in painting. In their day, of course, they often decorated the same spaces.
