The National Gallery in London has mounted one of its occasional small exhibitions that shed light on a very particular aspect of Western art. This time, light is precisely the subject of the show, which is called Art of Light: German Renaissance Stained Glass. On view until February 17, it focuses on stained glass produced in German-speaking areas in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and argues that the best stained glass from the Renaissance fully reflected, and sometimes rivaled, the latest developments in painting.
