Connaughton rumored as candidate for US House
Congressman Connaughton? It's matter of speculation among northern Virginia Republicans, but Maritime Administrator Sean T. Connaughton is being mentioned among a handful of possibles to run for the congressional seat currently held by Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va. The discussion is still in the "if" stage because Davis, who has served in Congress since 1994, has remained steadfastly silent on whether he will seek re-election in November. Connaughton got attention as chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, and ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 2005. He gave up the county position when he was appointed to head Marad. Davis' 11th District includes about half of Prince William County. Like Davis, Connaughton is considered a moderate, a critical factor because the district is not as solidly Republican as other parts of the state. Connaughton and Davis also have been linked closely in the past. Davis made a warm and complimentary introduction to the Senate Commerce Committee at Connaughton's confirmation hearing in 2006.
