An exhibition entitled Emile Galle and the Origins of Art Nouveau is on view at the Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, in northern England, until January 20, 2008. About two hundred works are on display by such makers as Lalique, Minton, Tiffany, Rozenburg, and Sevres, but the focal point of the show is a glass cabaret set commissioned from Galle by Josephine Bowes, the muse-um's cofounder, following her introduction to him at the International Exhibition held in London in 1871. It was one of Galle's first documented commissions.
