A one-of-a-kind ring with a price tag up to six figures? Not what you would expect from Pomellato, the Italian company known for big and colorful-but very wearable-baubles meant for every day. But the Milanese establishment has more than proved its "couture" jewelry mettle with a fortieth-anniversary collection-playfully named Pom Pom-of 40 sparkling knuckle-dusters. Aside from looking unique, the pieces are great feats of design in themselves, as no one else has ever placed smaller stones directly on a cabochon (it took the company's craftsmen two and a half years to perfect the top-secret technique).
