Sanger toasts Citizendium's first birthday
Citizendium, the rival to Wikipedia launched a year ago, has gone from strength to strength, according to its founder and editor-in-chief.
Larry Sanger, the co-founder of Wikipedia, who left to launch the rival project, used the first anniversary of Citizendium's private launch to mark its progress and announce a range of new features.
"We've grown nicely, and are now clearly accelerating," he said. "We've pioneered a new and better way to use wikis, and an interesting, dynamic way to build an online knowledge base.
"Increasingly, Citizendium is looking like the next step in the evolution of the collaborative internet."
Citizendium, described as the "citizens' compendium of everything", takes Wikipedia's anyone-can-contribute model and adds a traditional publishing twist A- experts edit and judge the content that goes online.
