India, other developing nations urged to expand vaccination programmes

Seoul, Dec 13 (PTI) India, which witnesses maximum pneumonia deaths in the world, and other developing nations, should expand vaccination programme "urgently" to check the pneumococcal diseases, experts said here today.

Around 1.6 million people including children and adults die of pneumococcal diseases, including pneumonia, meningitis and ear infections, every year mainly in developing countries, the experts at a two-day symposium on Pneumococcal Vaccination in the Asia-Pacific Region said here.
