Citation software initiates analysis of search results
Tracey Caldwell
Eugene Garfield, founder of the ISI citation index, has launched software designed to help science professionals make better use of their literature searches on the Web of Science.
HistCite analyses the results of a search to obtain different views of the topic, creating diagrams of the citation relationships between the papers identified by a search. These historiographs show the subject area's key events, their chronology and their relative influence.
Alexander Grimwade, chief operating officer at HistCite Software, said: "The analyses provided within the Web of Science by Thomson Scientific are based on the results of a single search and are not editable.
"HistCite allows the user to create a customised bibliographic database on a topic, author or journal, for example, and to perform a wide range of analyses on it."
