Don't let the title fool you. Country Preludes is a slick, fun, invention of jazz improvisation based on country concepts. To assume there's a prelude here is missing the point--and the fun.
I was having a pretty good time with "Country Rag," the first of 16 pieces, filling the house with a nod to the hoedown, and then I realized the included performance CD and backing track boasted well-voiced accompaniments. Inserted into my digital piano that plays audio CDs, I pulled up a fiddle tone and improvised a solo with Norton's piano and country band recording.
