Right@Sight: A Progressive Sight-Reading Course Including Duet Parts and a CD of Accompaniments: Cello Grade One, by Anita Hewitt-Jones and Caroline Lumsden; C.F. Peters Corp./Edition Peters (www.editionpeters.com), 2007; 40 pp.; $13.95

This two-volume series is a wonderful contribution to cello literature to help young students develop their sight-reading skills.

The format of these two volumes consists of the left-hand side of the page having solo examples with useful reminder suggestions of things to remember while playing with the accompanying CD. Each example is played twice with a metronome marking at the beginning and before the second time. The student is reminded with the mnemonic, TRaK: T for time signature, R for rhythm and K for key signature. (How many times do we say to our students, "Check the key signature, time signature and look over the rhythm before you start"? The right hand side of the page consists of duets to be played with a teacher or friend to reinforce the material presented on the left-hand side of the page.
