Meeting in Washington DC on the heels of the Knight Commission survey of faculty's perception of campus athletics, more than 130 faculty and athletics administrators from the nation's largest universities gathered at the faculty summit on athletics to discuss the faculty's role in campus athletics. Another 350 joined them in a live Web cast. Their concerns were:

* Should faculty be involved in sports programs? How?

* How can faculty and administrators collaborate to insure that athletes perform well both in class and on the field?

* How can campuses with top sports programs maintain academic rigor and integrity? ...
