Professors involved in campus governance at schools with high-profile athletics programs don't feel connected to and don't know much about issues in college sports, according to a national survey of 2,000 tenured or tenure-track respondents in the NCAA's Division I-A for the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics.
* About half said sports decisions on campus were driven by entertainment purposes with "minimal regard" for the universities' academic mission.
* More than 70% of respondents thought head football and basketball coaches were paid excessive salaries.
