Who? Catherine Zeta-Jones. What? The August cover of Allure, shot by Michael Thompson. When? May 1. Where? At Lux Studio in New York City, where the actress and her husband, Michael Douglas, have an apartment (their permanent residence is in Bermuda). Why? The Oscar-winning actress plays a no-nonsense chef in No Reservations, alongside Aaron Eckhart and Abigail Breslin, which opens on July 27. Paying Respects: Zeta-Jones came to the studio at 4:30 p.m., announcing with her hands in the air, "We finally made it!" She had just traveled from Washington, D.C., where she and Douglas had attended the funeral of Jack Valenti, the former chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America. The actress wore a black Armani suit
with a white rose and black Roger Vivier heels. Zeta-Jones rushed to the
shower and emerged with wet hair and skin several shades lighter than when she had arrived. Songbird: Zeta-Jones loved the '60s R&B music chosen by makeup artist Dick Page, who knew her taste from working on the actress' Elizabeth Arden advertising campaign. She crooned along to Dusty Springfield, Welsh singer Shirley Bassey, and, while she got dressed, belted out Dionne Warwick's "Walk on By" from her fitting room. Facing It: After a break, Zeta-Jones presented her face to Page, saying "I've done nothing, Dick. Nothing!"
Page inspected and let her go without a touch-up. Night Moves: Zeta-Jones slipped back into her suit at the end of the shoot, accidentally smudging foundation on the lapel of her jacket. Page offered to take off her makeup,
