Face Tanner
Glowing summer skin -- no streaks or muddy
spots. By Ellen Miller
In ancient Rome, women coated their skin in lead paint to whiten their faces. Today, we prefer a golden glow -- and don't have to smear toxic metals on our skin to achieve it. What's more, "facial self-tanners even out your complexion and actually make the face look slimmer," says makeup artist Mally Roncal, who works with Jennifer Lopez. "It does have to be applied correctly though, or the color will look obvious." For the most natural effect, choose the correct formula for your skin tone. Women with fair complexions should stick with the gradual versions that build a tan over several days, while the medium- to dark-skinned can use traditional self-tanners that develop in a few hours. Pick a shade intensity (light, medium, or dark) that is closest to your natural skin tone, and to keep your color looking fresh, be sure to moisturize frequently and reapply every three to five days. This way, you'll strike golden every time.
