Rhode Island College is paying $5,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a Women's Studies group claiming the public college violated free-speech rights when it removed their signs that said, "Keep your rosaries off our ovaries."

The college's Women's Studies Organization had posted signs demanding reproductive rights near the college entrance in December 2005, and a visiting priest complained to the president. The signs were removed because they were not associated with a specific event, said college spokesperson Jane Fusco. The lawsuit argued ...
