Each October, an unusual celebration takes place in the Chemistry Department at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pa. Celebrated annually on Oct. 23, from 6:02 a.m. to 6:02 p.m., "Mole Day" commemorates not the pesky rodent, but Avogadro's Number--6.02 x 10 to the 23rd power--which is a basic measuring unit in the field of chemistry. Mole Day was created by the National Mole Day Foundation as a way to foster interest in chemistry.
