Last issue we reviewed The Smithereens' Meet the Smithereens!, a recreation of the seminal Meet the Beatles! What I failed to mention-as Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken makes abundantly clear in the liner notes--is that The Smithereens recreated the Capitol album that ravaged the colonies to the tune of 3.6 million copies in two months! It's been so long since Capitol's alleged avarice has been, er, rectified by Parlophone/EMI, and The Beatles' albums have been reissued with their proper British titles, proper British content, and proper British cover art, it is forgotten that we of a certain age knew Meet the Beatles! by heart.
