Bikini Wax
Get swimsuit-ready
in six easy (we swear) steps. By Victoria Kirby
Mark Twain once said, "Man is the only animal that blushes...." Could it be because we're the only creature who subjects our bikini line to a stranger? Not surprisingly, many women would rather do the deed in private. And while cold-wax kits are fast and easy, most experts advise using heated wax. "The heat softens the follicle so the hairs pull out more easily," says Lidia Tivichi, an aesthetician at the Kimara Ahnert salon, in New York City. Frequent waxers may want to invest in a professional heating device from a beauty-supply store, while others may prefer an all-in-one kit -- just pay attention when warming the wax. "Reheat it in a microwave every five minutes, and stir frequently," says Cindy Barshop, owner of the Completely Bare spas. One final sticking point: Don't attempt a Brazilian wax at home. "Even pros don't do Brazilians on themselves," Barshop says.
