Nov. 1--Thousands of satisfied stomachs later, two local agencies are preparing to celebrate an achievement that has been cooking up a valuable service for three decades.
The partnership between the Senior Nutrition Program of Weld Area Agency on Aging and the University of Northern Colorado Dining Services is celebrating 30 years of providing meals to local senior citizens.
The program, which is not associated with Meals on Wheels, has been offering nutritional food and a social outlet for an increasing number of seniors. What began 1976 as a small joint effort has now grown substantially to serve 76,000 meals a year at 21 urban and rural sites across the region, while utilizing 500 volunteers.
