TAIPEI, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Premier Chang Chun-hsiung put forward five contingency measures Wednesday, including setting up a price stabilization ad hoc task force, to cope with volatile inflation situations.
At a regular Executive Yuan meeting, Chang appointed Vice Premier Chiou I-jen as convener of the price stabilization ad hoc task force.
He also appointed the Council for Economic Planning and Development as the planning and executive body to activate a supra-division mechanism to monitor the supply situations of major commodities and keep inflation under control.
Chang said that in an Aug. 1 Executive Yuan meeting, he had instructed the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to monitor the price structures of raw materials and major commodities in Taiwan, the Ministry of Finance to be ready to halve taxes, and the Ministry of Justice to investigate any possible hoarding in the face of spiralling prices on the international market.
