SYDNEY, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Australian manufacturing activity posted a modest gain in October to expand for the 17th consecutive month.
The Australian Industry Group-PricewaterhouseCoopers Australian Performance of Manufacturing Index (Australian PMI) rose by 2.6 points in October to 53.3.
It was above the 50 level which separates an expansion from a contraction.
The index, based on a survey of about 200 firms, showed activity expanded in nine of the 12 sectors, up from six in September.
Australian Industry Group chief executive Heather Ridout said the October result continued the trend of modest expansion in manufacturing with little sign of accelerating inflationary pressures in terms of wages or prices.
