Oct. 31--NICEVILLE -- Potential.
Okaloosa-Walton College women's basketball coach Brittney Ezell said "it can be a dangerous word." It's also one of the most important words in her coaching vocabulary.
"My biggest concern is that they live up to their potential," Ezell said, referring to her Raider club that will open the season Friday. "Potentially, we could be a very good basketball team. Potentially, we shoot well. Potentially, we run well.
"Just to lump everything in, I don't want them to underachieve."
A bad taste was left in OWC's mouth after last season, when the team went a respectable 18-10 and 8-7 in the ultra-competitive Panhandle Conference yet still felt unfulfilled. It's easy to argue the final result could have been better had it not been for a fight with Tallahassee that left several players suspended and seemed to derail the season.
That's not Ezell's viewpoint.
