HIGHS | Ride, cargo and towing capacity.
LOWS | Handling, braking, turning circle, driving position, no flat-folding third-row seat, fuel economy, slow backup camera.
The huge Suburban might not be politically correct, but it has been the vehicle of choice for families who won't fit in a minivan or other SUV, or who need heavy-duty towing or off-roading capabilities. It can seat nine (though more commonly seven or eight) with plenty of room for luggage. It has a comfortable ride, a quiet interior, and a well-mannered V8 engine. It should also have good reliability, based on the Tahoe. But its handling is ungainly and its fuel economy is poor.
While the Suburban has lots of space up front and the second row is comfortable even for three large adults, the third row can't measure up to that in the Ford Expedition. It doesn't fold flat, and the heavy seats must be removed for maximum cargo space. The third row has enough room for three adults but the low position and lack of knee room hurt its usefulness. Folding the second row is easy but reveals a difficult climb to the back.
