Oct. 27--A Durham Public Schools central office administrator has been named principal at Parkwood Elementary School.

Rita Bongarten, a school improvement specialist for the public school system, will replace Twanjua Leathers, who has taken a job in another state.

"This is a dream that I have had for a very long time, and I have worked to prepare for it," Bongarten said in a news release from the district. "I am grateful to the Board of Education and to the superintendent for their confidence in me."

Before coming to Durham, Bongarten served as an assistant superintendent in Stratford, Conn., for a year; a language…
