Oct. 25--Exports from Indiana to foreign countries rose over 5 percent from 2005 to 2006, according to a study by Indiana University business experts.
The study, conducted for the Indiana Economic Development Corp., found that the state exported $22.6 billion in products to other countries in 2006.
The study was done by the Indiana Business Research Center at IU's Kelley School of Business.
It also predicts exports will increase again for 2007.
"The reports for the first half of 2007 seem to indicate that exports from Indiana may have rebounded," the report states.
"If the second half of 2007 matches the performance of the first half, 2007 will prove to be a banner year for Indiana exports," it says. "At the current rate, the value of exports in 2007 will exceed last year's value by about $3 billion."
Researchers noted that one out of every six jobs in the state is devoted to exports.
