Excessive drinking is a national epidemic, according to the media and campus leaders in student services. At one campus, a new program based on gendered approaches to the issue is having some success.

Women and men drink for different reasons, behave differently when drunk and suffer different consequences. Initiatives to reduce drinking and its consequences can benefit from factoring in gender-specific attitudes and risk factors, judging from a new program at University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
