Mike Cornick has successfully matched his previous duet collection with Charleston for Two. These playful arrangements are well suited for intermediate to early-advanced pianists, and a refreshing addition to audience-pleasing duet literature. Students may find these a perfect project for history classes. "Ragtime Dance" and "Shortnin' Bread" are the most rewarding of the set, and offer the greatest challenge. "Ragtime Dance" is true to Scott Joplin's original rag. Stylistic awareness is accurate, with an 8va primo indication on the repeat of the B section. Careful fingering of 16th-note passages is provided. Joplin's direction for stop time stamps is accurately notated in the D section of the secondo part. "Shortnin' Bread" offers greater equality of parts and some challenging rhythms for the secondo player. The harmonies are more chromatic with substitute dominant and extended chords in the coda.
