RCM Examinations was delighted to welcome Ingrid Clarfield as a guest clinician on the afternoon program. Clarfield, professor and coordinator of the piano department at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, is a nationally recognized performer, clinician and author. She has presented workshops and lecture-recitals in more than 100 cities across North America. Clarfield has written several books that are published by Alfred Publishing Co. Her students have won numerous awards in state, national and international competitions. She is well known to both CFMTA and MTNA members.
This lively session focused on assessment in the studio, sharing many wonderful ideas about how to develop critical listening skills of young pianists. Drawing upon her wealth of knowledge and experience, the presentation highlighted different ways in which teachers can help guide their students, not only during the lessons but with instructions and direction for practicing during the week. Using many musical examples, insightful and inspiring suggestions were given for creative teaching and performing including the following topics:
