On Mother's Day, stand up to save the world!(Brief article)
On Mother's Day (May 13), a group from Ohio is organizing women around the world to stand together for five minutes of silence at 1 pm in their local time zones.
Inspired by the book The Great Silent Grandmother Gathering by Sharon Mehdi, they have a Web site www.standing-women.org to organize the event. The site is in 15 languages and links to a You Tube video. According to Deb Ballam, director of The Women's Place at Ohio State University.
"We will be standing for the world's children and grandchildren, and for seven generations beyond them. We dream of a world where all of our children have safe drinking water, clean air to breathe and enough food to eat.
