A recent ruling from an appellate court has resurrected a suit that could demonstrate how sexual harassment and the culture of college athletics violate Title IX.
Nine years ago, former University of North Carolina soccer player Melissa Jennings sued the school, claiming that her coach, Anson Dorrance, maintained a hostile environment filled with sexual harassment. A District Court judge dismissed the case three years ago, but the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, VA recently ruled overwhelmingly that the facts supported Jennings' case and ordered the case to receive a jury trial.
