At press time Harvard University has reportedly narrowed its short list of candidates to replace Larry Summers as president to a handful of people, according to The Harvard Crimson. The list supposedly includes:
* Elena Kagan, dean of Harvard's law school
* Drew Gilpin Faust, dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, at Harvard
* Steven E. Hyman, Harvard provost and neuroscientist
* Thomas Cech, Nobel Prize-winning chemist and president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute
While some speculate it will be a Harvard insider who lands the job, others think an outsider might be able to bring more perspective. Only the nine search committee members know who might be the next president.
After the tenure of former president Lawrence Summers, the committee will tread carefully.
