Naval Academy Superintendent Rodney Rempt is retiring this summer after a four-year tenure. He leaves behind a legacy of change as he worked to take the school from a hostile environment to women to a leader in higher ed.

"He's done more for women in four years than others did in the past 30," said Sharon Hanley Disher, a 1979 graduate.

Rempt inherited a high-profile rape case a month after arriving on campus in 2003. After dropping the charges, he made a plan to change the school's sexist culture, worked to get sexual harassment cases to court rather than handling them ...
