The president of Southern University system in Louisiana is receiving a settlement that includes an extra $400,000 for agreeing to drop a whistle-blower suit filed against the system's Board of Supervisors.

Ralph Slaughter officially asked a judge to dismiss his suit in early September, one week after agreeing to a settlement and a salary increase. Slaughter will receive a $10,000 raise and a $200,000 salary supplement for the next two years. He was nearly fired in June.
