In August a former Vanderbilt University TN graduate student filed a $3 million suit against the school and a professor for sexual harassment and breach of contract.
Brigitte Kovacevich earned a doctorate in 2006 with a "low pass" grade and worked under anthropology professor Arthur Demarest at the Cancuen archeological project in Guatemala. Demarest, whose work was mentioned in August's National Geographic magazine, holds a named chair in the anthropology department.
According to the suit, Demarest hit Kovacevich and called her a "stupid [expletive]." Another time he told her "women are not good for anything but sex" and "women are only receptacles for semen," she claimed.
