While the Black Coaches Association wants more black head football coaches, few realize that almost no black women are head coaches on campus.

* No black women are head coaches for women's basketball in any of the premier conferences, such as the Big Ten.

* Although there are more black than white head coaches in the Atlantic conference, none is a woman.

* There is only one black coach in each of the Pacific Ten and Big East conferences.

* After the recent departures of Pokey Chatman at Louisiana State University and Carolyn Peck at the University of Florida, there are no black women as head coaches in the Southeastern conference.

Peck was fired in February as University of Florida women's basketball coach after four years and a 69-74 record. Chatman quit in March after three seasons at Louisiana State University as head coach of the women's basketball team, with a 90-14 record and four NCAA Final Four appearances, amid rumors of an inappropriate relationship with a player.
