Virginia State to pay $600,000 for firing prof.(NEWSWATCH)
Virginia State University will pay a $600,000 settlement to a tenured female professor whom it fired in 2005.
Jean Cobbs had taught sociology and social work at the school for 33 years. She said that she was dismissed because of her political views--being an outspoken black Republican at a historically black college. Additionally, information obtained by her lawyer showed that the school's provost, W. Eric Thomas, replaced Cobbs with a woman he lives with.
