Young medical students studying to be abortion providers are often doing so as an act of defiance, taking on the risk of isolation and harassment. Many of these students go into the field as a way to fight the growing restrictions on a right they have known all of their lives.
While abortion remains legal, access to abortion providers is growing thin. The U.S. had about 1,800 abortion providers in 2000, compared with 6,200 plastic surgeons.
