The California Senate is looking into gender discrimination at the Fresno campus following an almost $6 million award to Fresno's former women's volleyball coach, who sued the school for sex discrimination.

With two other Fresno athletics department gender discrimination cases headed to court this fall, the campus is under scrutiny. Fresno district state senator Dean Florez, from the new Senate Select Committee on Gender Discrimination and Title IX Implementation, wrote to Chancellor Charles Reed expressing concern about "the recent epidemic of discrimination against women."
