The University of Washington has agreed to pay $500,000 to part-time faculty to settle a class-action lawsuit.

The settlement affects almost 1,000 part-time lecturers who taught between 2000 and 2007. Susan Helf, a part-time UW lecturer, filed suit in 2006, claiming that part-time faculty should also receive the 2% annual merit increase given to full-time faculty. Most part-time faculty are women.
