Asthma continues to be a major public health concern in Virginia, according to the state's first comprehensive asthma report, which found that the chronic condition places the highest burden on children, the poor and minorities.
Released in June by the Virginia Department of Health, "Asthma in Virginia: A Comprehensive Data Report, 2006" documents state regions with the highest number of people living with asthma, prevalence of asthma triggers, costs of the illness, and rates and numbers of hospitalizations associated with the disease.
