Gardberg celebrates birthday with best time She finishes second to help Lemon Bay girls finish third; Lemon Bay boys place fifth.

The Lady Manta Rays junior covered the 3.1-mile course in a personal-best 20 minutes, 6 seconds to help her team finish third.

"It was a good race," said Gardberg, whose previous best was 20:08. "I was hoping to get a personal-best time. I'd rather get that than first place with a bad time."

To add to the course, North Port added a water hazard between two hills that the runners had to run through or jump over.

"That was so cool," Gardberg said. "I went right through it."

Fort Myers' Katie Russo took first in 19:48.
