SEOUL, Oct. 1 Asia Pulse - South Korean exports dropped 0.4 per cent from a year ago to US$29.5 billion in September due largely to the long thanksgiving holiday, a government report showed Monday.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said that despite strong gains in shipments of ships, steel and petrochemical products, exports fell last month, affected by the five-day-long Chuseok, or South Korea's thanksgiving.
It said there were 19.5 work days last month versus 23.5 work days the year before.
Shorter workdays also caused imports to fall 2.1 per cent to .0 billion last month, resulting in a trade surplus of $2.49 billion, the report said.
Before September, the country posted 19 straight months of double digit export growth.
