Sep. 28--ESCONDIDO ---- When Gerard Tanksley founded a boy's basketball program at Escondido Charter High School four years ago, the team practiced in the student parking lot with two hoops that coaches brought from home, he said Thursday.
That memory feels distant and unrealistic today, Tanksley said, as the school opens its first multimillion-dollar gymnasium, and his new 18-member team gears up for indoor practices and home games.
"I just never dreamed this would happen," Tanksley said. "It's amazing what they have been able to do."
