Academy calls for training in peer review
The British Academy has waded in in support of the beleaguered peer review system, saying it remains the best system for humanities and social sciences, and that metrics-based evaluation should be introduced with caution.
Peer review is groaning under the pressure on researchers' time and an increasing number of papers, and there is growing interest in full economic costing and metrics.
The British Academy has issued a report A- Peer Review: The Challenges for the Humanities and Social Sciences A- recommending improvements such as training and better recognition for unpaid peer reviewers.
