While left-wing demonstrators marched in front of Canada's Parliament building in Ottawa and outside the North American Leaders' Summit of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) at the nearby resort village of Montebello, Canadian and U.S. conservative leaders of the Coalition to Block the North American Union held a press conference at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel. The coalition, which includes more than 50 organizations, registered the strong opposition of their combined memberships to the efforts by Canadian, Mexican, and U.S. leaders to transform NAFTA into a fully integrated political and economic North American Union.
