Regarding Michael Moore's advocacy for socialized medicine (Inside Track, July 9 issue), I have to recall when I was a "beneficiary" of universal healthcare in the U.S. Military. The medical treatment was "free" and, sometimes, even unsolicited (unknown vaccinations, no informed consent and, yes, undisclosed experimentation at times).
Military medicine (universal care) is not responsible to the end user. Back in the '80s my mother, a dependent of my father, a retired army officer, was killed due to gross medical malpractice at Fort Sam Houston. During the litigation, we uncovered so many similar instances that the only conclusion possible was that such negligence was endemic to the system.
If the government so mistreats its military, which it ostensibly needs and values, what can the rest of us expect?
I am sure that Moore's film points out many egregious injustices and outrageous instances of medical harms, but that's what we ...
