Air conditioners quiet comfort.(CR Home)(Buyers guide)
The National Weather Service predicts that this summer will be hotter than usual in much of the country. But some room air conditioners are so noisy that you might have to choose between sweating and sleeping.
We checked for noise on both low and high settings. Models with excellent or very good noise scores are so quiet that all you might hear is the fan running; you'll barely notice the compressor kicking in. But you'll always know when models that scored fair for noise are running. Here's what else our testing revealed:
