Big, high-performance cameras are getting smaller, lighter, and less expensive, our latest tests show. And now you can choose from at least two distinct types.

Our most highly recommended single-lens reflex camera, the Nikon D40, weighs little more than a pound and costs just $560, lens included. That's hundreds less than most SLRs, and more cameras in that price range are on the way.

We also found two big and versatile point-and-shoot cameras from Fujifilm, which we term "SLR-like," that offer many of an SLR's benefits for a lot less money.
